The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been going after several crypto projects and companies for claiming that they are selling unregistered securities. In November last year, the SEC won a case against LBRY Credits, with the judge ruling that the LBC token was an investment contract. However, in a recent win for the LBRY community, the judge clarified that the ruling did not include secondary market sales. According to a recent blog post by Borussia Dortmund, Coinbase has doubled down on its partnership with BVB to become its premium partner. As part of the new extended partnership, Coinbase brand advertisements will be displayed through perimeter advertising and cam carpets in Dortmund's SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, Germany's largest football stadium. Coinbase initially started its partnership with BVB in July of last year. As part of the deal, Coinbase ads ran on the video screens during home games in the stadium. Bloomberg reports that Genesis may be getting ready to declare bankruptcy. The troubled crypto lender has been under the shadow of insolvency for weeks, following the credit crisis that has hit the crypto industry. Genesis was one of the largest lenders in the space, often acting as a third-party for other lending outfits promising yields way above anything available in the traditional financial markets. The massive amount Coinbase is expected to pay is made up of a $50m penalty to the regulator, as well as another $50m committed to compliance program investments. The latter amount will be spent over the next two years, the exchange said. The news was announced by Coinbase on Wednesday in a blog post where it called the payments “a critical step in our commitment to continuous improvement, our engagement with key regulators, and our push for greater compliance in the crypto space.” Coinbase has been under investigation by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) since at least 2021 over matters relating to its compliance program. Image credit: FTX As the US authorities continue their investigation into the sudden collapse of major crypto exchange FTX, federal prosecutors are probing an alleged hack that allowed cyber criminals to steal assets worth more than $370 million from the platform hours after it filed for bankruptcy.  The US Department of Justice has kicked off a criminal probe into the cyber theft, separating it from the fraud case centered around FTX’s disgraced co-founder and potential author Sam Bankman-Fried, a person familiar with the case who requested not to be named told Bloomberg.  The available data suggests that criminals left behind traces of transactions, and the stolen assets that were siphoned from the exchange were laundered into bitcoin (BTC) and ethereum (ETH).
